Nicky & Tony - Well Travelled
We're always willing to help our customers personalise their parties and when non-islanders Nicky & Tony contacted us for help organising their large party with invited guests from several countries including a large North American contingent, we jumped at the chance to help!
Choice of music was very important to both Nicky and Tony - although unfortunately there wasn't much overlap in their tastes! It was also necessary to entertain the Americans who made up around 30% of the audience but not alienate the significant proportion of guests from other parts of the world. So it was decided that the playout style for this party would be 'scattergun' - rapid changes of genre and era to ensure that no-one had to sit through more than 2 or 3 unfamiliar songs.
The bride and groom provided a long playlist with many dedications and it fell to us to sequence this appropriately and insert additional songs to make everything flow as well as possible. It would have been easy to have just played 'cheesy music' familiar to all, but our clients didn't want this, and that was fine by us!
Due to the number of guests and the timing of the wedding ceremony and breakfast, it was necessary to erect a marquee on the lawn - and the marquee needed a seperate PA system for speeches plus video projection equipment so that the best man could humiliate his groom! In addition a vocalist was called for to provide additional entertainment in the 3 hours between ceremony and meal when guests were strolling around the lawns and gardens in the glorious sunshine taking pictures and making merry.
From a logistics point of view, the evening disco would take place in the same room as used for the wedding ceremony - which meant that it was impossible to set up equipment earlier in the day. The only timeslot therefore was during the wedding breakfast when all the guests would be in the marquee! Which of course meant that a soundcheck was out of the question...
VectisVibe therefore recognised the need for close co-ordination to make this party a success, and the planning process started about a year before the big day when we held the first of three face-to-face meetings with Nicky & Tony to learn all about their requirements and aspirations. Regular contact was maintainted until the plans were fixed and it was time to action them! Liaison with the venue, the vocalist and the marquee hire firm followed and we're pleased to say that the whole day went off without a hitch! A great time was had by all and the bar was still rocking when we left at 1am having removed all the equipment.
